ADD in Wonderland

Updated: Feb 12, 2021

Do you know what ADD/ADHD is like? It's like being Alice in Wonderland. None of the world's rules completely make sense to your brain. Someone is running around yelling, "You're late!". . . being strangely judged by everyone you run into because you don't understand what the rules are. For our brains, the world is "curiouser and curiouser". We push forward because we want to see what else is out there...Yes, we are distracted by a cat no one sees...or we sit down frustrated & crying, drowning in our own tears only to later remark, "I wish I hadn't cried so much....". Where everyone else sees the world as it is, we see it in a cacophony of colors, sounds, images, and strange situations. What we also do is bring a very unique perspective. We are surprised when a solution we see so easily is amazing to others. Then, we are frustrated when it seems that everyone around us navigates easily and we are struggling.

In our ADHD world, time is malleable and not absolute. It speeds up and slows down based on circumstance. Emotions run high & low within seconds. Everything is thrilling & then mundane. We constantly move to what is interesting or stimulating. We gather lots of fun, sometimes nonsensical, information. We see possibility in the impossible because, for us, "nothing's impossible".

Being an ADHD wife and mother, having ADHD children, married to an ADHD husband, means our lives are constantly kept as interesting as possible...we live on the edge of chaos. Chores are a struggle for everyone...so is sleeping, mornings, work, school, etc. But, since we're all in it together, there is a lot of understanding, grace, and the ability to laugh at it all....and I wouldn't want my life any other way!
